Facebook Dabbles In Search

Facebook announces Graph Search, an improved way to search for friends, places, photos and interests on the world’s largest social network.

While the announcement for Facebook search was not unforeseen, now that it’s here, the release of Graph Search and the partnership with Microsoft’s Bing! is enough to garner some serious interest. Now more than ever before, you will be able to search socially, tapping into Facebook’s long-withheld arsenal of data.

What are some of the things you can do with Facebook search, you ask? Now, you can search for people, places and interests on Facebook and get more meaningful feedback than before. And with the new advanced search platform, you can search for someone without worrying that you are actually writing in your status update. Don’t you hate when that happens? Some of the searches that you will be able to conduct are:

  • Search for friends based on location, interests, where they work, where they went to school, ect.
  • Search for photos based on location, likes, comments, or even your interaction with them
  • Search for businesses, restaurants, and places based on where your friends have been
  • Search movies and TV shows that friends like

While Graph Search right now is predominantly social in nature and in no way replaces web search, the new features are enough to keep certain companies on their toes… As the platform progresses, it will be interesting to see the integration between Facebook and Bing! and how this search will be received by Facebook users.
